Myotherapy
Myotherapy is a technique used for relieving muscular pain by using trigger points. Trigger points are extremely irritable areas in one’s muscles.
Myotherapy works by pressing on sore points that trigger pain away from those points. This technique is similar to acupressure. To calm the points of pain in one’s muscles, myotherapy applies pressure with one’s hands or elbows. The amount of pressure that is used depends on the extent of irritability of the trigger points. When receiving myotherapy, the neck and shoulder muscles are usually involved and related to headaches.
When you come to Injury Rehab for your first myotherapy session, it is important to wear loose and comfortable clothes. Our therapists need to be able to feel your muscles and work through your clothing. Therefore, it would be detrimental to your recovery if you were to wear heavy clothing for your session.
During your first session, an Injury Rehab therapist will take a detailed history of your pain in order to decipher where to look for the trigger points that will relieve the most pain. After your history is taken and the myotherapy has taken place, your therapist will give you minor exercises to do at home in order to continue diminishing your pain.
